PLANS for a coach and community car park have been approved in Barton under Needwood - close to a site for 130 homes.

Barton Consortium Ltd - the applicant behind a proposed development for 130 homes has been given permission for the car park, which would be funded by the housing development.

The car park, to the rear of Station Road, would have room for 80 cars, seven coaches and two taxi ranks.

It will also include the creation of a new access off Station Road and the installation of entrance gates, bus shelters, lighting and landscaping.

The car park will be open from 7am to 6pm from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm on Saturdays, and from 9am to 6pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

The applicant said the proposal had been considered a community benefit for some time.

It said in a statement: “The facility has a role to play in discouraging traffic and parking from the village centre, particularly on school days in the morning.
