DOZENS of people braved the cold water of the River Trent to take part in an outdoor challenge.

The experienced group of swimmers took part in the Trent Challenge on Sunday from Willington Bridge and finish at Swarkestone Bridge.

Sarah Lewis, a member of the Outdoor Swimming Society, said: “We have been swimming the River Trent for more than two years and decided that we would do a yearly 11k swim.

“Most swims of this distance are held in the south of the country and it would be fitting to have a central one, in the Midlands

“This swim was the first of its type, to ascertain its popularity, hoping that in following years we can repeat the event raising money for local charities.
