COMMUTERS are set to be hit in the pocket after a major bus firm announced a hike in prices for routes across Burton and South Derbyshire.
Arriva has revealed that most of its single adult fares are to rise by a maximum of 10p and children single fares will increase by between 5p and 10p from Sunday.
The firm has launched a range of special saver fares for three months in a bid to soften the blow and minimise the impact on travellers.
Managing director Alex Perry said: “No one likes to increase their prices especially at such a difficult time but, as everyone knows from their domestic bills, costs are steadily rising.
“The price rise will allow us to continue our significant investment in new fleet and meet rising business costs.”
“We have kept those fares that are increasing to a minimum and have worked hard to ensure many fares have actually been frozen or reduced as we introduce several ‘quids in’ - £1 to town single fares.
“There are changes to most single fares – a maximum 10p increase on adult single fares under £3.30 with child single fares generally increasing by 5p or 10p.
“The changes will be introduced on Sunday.”
The fares that will be changed and rise by 10p are the ones priced at £1.50, £1.70, £1.80, £2.10, £2.40, £2.50, £2.60, £2.80, £3.00 and £3.20.
The £5.20 adult period return x38 Burton to Derby rate will increase to £5.40
Single fares that will remain unchanged are the ones priced at £1, £1.20, £1.30, £1.60, £1.90, £2.00, £2.20, £2.30, £3.30, £3.50, £3.60 and £3.70.
