Concern over cold calling

SHOPPERS are being urged not to buy from cold callers and use a council’s free Trusted Trader service following a new report.

A national review carried out by the Office of Fair Trading has highlighted a growth in phone and doorstep cold calling – particularly by energy efficiency providers.

It says their poor practices leave consumers experiencing pressured sales, unclear information about cancellation rights and poor quality installations.

However, Derbyshire County Council says there is no need for any Derbyshire resident to employ cold callers – because every company on its Trusted Trader register has to promise not to cold call.

Trusted Trader is the largest local authority-run scheme of its kind in the country and now has more than 1,300 members – including 24 renewable energy and 60 double glazing firms.

It is accessible on line at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/tt or by calling Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058.
