A HOUSING developer has finally been given permission to begin work on a new estate in a village near Burton following a three-year battle with councillors.
The 128-home development off Efflinch Lane, in Barton under Needwood, has been approved.
Bellway Homes first unveiled the plans in 2011, to the dismay of councilors, and though the firm was granted outline planning permission last year bosses were then told last month to tweak the plans before bringing them back to the table.
Parish councillors in Barton were angered by the lack of affordable housing in the proposals – only 20 of the 128 would be within the reach of the middle earner.
But Stephen Rose, marketing director at Bellway Homes, said the development would 'cater for everyone'.
He said: "Barton under Needwood is an attractive and thriving village and there is proven demand for new homes. We have worked closely with the planners to devise the right combination of homes for the village within the right setting.
"We are building terraces, semi-detached and detached homes of varying sizes."
