A SIGN which welcomed people to a parish which has its centre several miles away has been replaced with a more suitable one alerting people to their location.
The sign, which welcomed people to Branston, caused widespread mirth when it was put up last autumn, as people chided Branston Parish Council for asserting itself miles away from the centre of the parish.
It was removed in November to allow a new sign with different wording to be put in place, but the plinth remained empty for several weeks.
However, a sign has now been put with the less surprising wording of ‘Welcome to Burton; Parish of Branston’.
Branston Parish Council chairman Mike Ackroyd said he thought the new sign offered a suitable compromise for those who thought the original was misplaced, and those who thought it was correctly sited on the edge of the parish.
He said: “think the sign will be great now we have got this little wrinkle sorted out.
“I’m not out to make a stand, it is about what the residents want and this is a good compromise.”
