NEW regulations to crack down on unlicensed scrap metal dealers have been hailed a success by East Staffordshire Borough Council.

The new law has seen a licensing system introduced for scrap metal dealers to make them verify that the metal they are buying is from legal sources.

Borough councillor Sonia Andjelkovic said: "We hope to clean up the scrap metal industry in East Staffordshire and protect our community, businesses and reputable dealers from rogues and thieves who cause such damage, distress and disruption."
