A BURTON parish councillor insists he will not resign from his post after claiming he has been alienated for blowing the whistle on alleged illegal activity within the council.

Hugh Warner told the Mail that senior members of Anglesey Parish Council had attempted to ‘cut him out of the loop’ after speaking out about the alleged activity and a number of behind-closed-doors meetings, saying he no longer receives parish council documents such as the agenda and minutes.

But he vowed to continue in his role at the council — which has descended into a farce with councillor numbers dwindling to just four since the summer due to various disputes — saying it was his duty to taxpayers in Anglesey.

These claims, which have been refuted by the parish council, come after the Mail revealed accusations from inside the parish council of illegal activity last month, which have been discussed in private away from the press and public’s ears.

Councillor Warner has threatened to expose details of the ‘secret’ talks if the press and public continued to be denied access to meetings.

He said: “I no longer receive minutes and agendas. I don’t think it’s right. Every councillor should have access to documents, and that includes minutes and agendas. It’s because of what I’m doing and what I’m saying.”

But Councillor Warner insisted he won’t walk away like so many other Anglesey councillors have done in the past six months.

He added: “They’re not addressing the issues. I’m not going to resign and let it carry on. People paying council tax in Anglesey should know what’s going on. I think it’s wrong. In the last six months the council has gone to pot.

“I’m prepared to make a public statement revealing everything I know.”

When contacted by the Mail, Anglesey Parish Council manager Ruth Redgate flatly denied Mr Warner’s claims, saying: “He has not been removed from any of our distribution lists.”
