A CAMPAIGN has been launched to tackle shed and garage burglary in South Derbyshire.

Thefts from shed, garages and outbuildings is a problem particularly in the summer months.

Derbyshire Police has now launched a campaign to help to tackle this type of crime.

A variety of crime prevention initiatives will be taking place where officers will be giving advice to the public on how to secure their property.

A spokesman for the force said: “We would like to remind all residents to secure their sheds and out buildings.

“A way to try and prevent this would be to invest in a padlock or shed alarm and to use reverse hinges with bolts where the fastening mechanism is on the inside.

“Also look at the security lighting surrounding your property and cut back any shrubbery which may be creating a screen for burglars to hide behind.

“Please ensure that valuable items are not left on display.”

Anyone who would like crime prevention advice is urged to call safer neighbourhood teams on 101.
