HOMEOWNER in South Derbyshire have the lowest water and sewage bills in the entire country.

Severn Trent Water revealed that for the fifth year in a row customers have the lowest average household combined water and sewerage bills in England and Wales.

According to figures released by industry body Water UK, the average combined bill will increase by £3 – a change of 1.1 per cent from last year – which is less than the current rate of inflation.

At £333, the average bill for 2014-15 remains the lowest thanks to a range of cost saving improvements at the company.

Severn Trent Water’s Rob Salmon said: “Our customers’ combined water and sewerage bills will rise on average by 1.1 per cent, a three pound increase.

“We recognise that any sort of price rise is difficult because money is tight for our customers.

“However, we continue to work hard to keep our bills as affordable as possible.

“Delivering value for money for all our customers is important to us.

“Every water bill paid helps us to deliver improvements, which make sure that each time you turn on a tap or flush the loo, the service is reliable.

“As part of this commitment, from 2010 to 2015 we’ve invested £2.6 billion in renewing, replacing and improving our water and waste water network, to reduce leaks and help to protect homes from sewer flooding.”

In Derbyshire, Severn Trent Water has invested more than £62 million in the past year to carry out planned improvements to the water and waste water system.

The firm is also celebrating after revealing that it managed to reduce leakage levels more than any other water company and sewer blockages were also reduced by 30 per cent overall.

Severn Trent Water also wants to help its customers to stay on top of their finances.

Mr Salmon said: “We’d like to let our customers know that help is available if they are struggling.

“As soon as you feel you are having financial difficulties please speak to us.

“There are many ways that you can pay your water bill and we will help you find the payment arrangement which suits you best.”
