A MEMORIAL to people who gave their lives for their country looks set to have an addition ahead of the First World War commemorations.
Castle Gresley Parish Council chiefs revealed that the site at the junction of Mount Pleasant Road and Linton Road is getting a brand new monument to mark the occasion and it will be officially unveiled in a service at 11am on Saturday, August 16.
The site has also been spruced up as part of preparations to honour the centenary later this year.
Janice Pallet, chairman of Castle Gresley Parish Council, spoke to the Mail about the work.
She said: "We commissioned a new tablet to be created and placed at the memorial in the village.
"We are going to hold a ceremony on August 16 to dedicate it and then hold an event afterwards, with refreshments, at the Mount Pleasant pub."
The event will also feature a raffle and a tombola for visitors to take part in.
