THROUGHOUT this month, the Mail’s David Broome is taking on the ‘Veganuary’ challenge – to go through the whole month of January on a vegan diet. Here, in a daily diary, he charts his progress.
OVER the weekend I was at a family funeral, which isn’t especially relevant to the veganuary diet, other than that there was a buffet at the wake, which contained no vegan-friendly options.
I struggled through on my bread roll and salad.
I thought Saturday might be tricky, as I was covering Bournemouth against Burton Albion, which required sitting in a car for six to seven hours. I prepared food to take along, though.
Sunday, January 5
We went out for lunch today for the first time since starting the diet, and managed to find something we could eat.
Breakfast: gluten-free cornflakes with almond milk and raisins.
Lunch: baked potato with baked beans.
Tea: vegetable risotto with mushrooms and dairy-free cheese.
