JEFF Hendrick’s ankle injury is not as bad as first feared but the midfielder is out of Derby County’s home game against Yeovil tonight.

Hendrick (pictured) limped off after 35 minutes of Saturday’s draw with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park with ligament damage.

The Republic of Ireland international has had a scan and Derby are hopeful he will miss only a week or two at the most.

“It’s not as serious as we first thought,” said head coach Steve McClaren.

“I haven’t seen the challenge again and their boy (Blackburn’s Ben Marshall) seemed to come off worst.

“Jeff carried on but was not 100 per cent, so no risk, we got him off.”

Hendrick had been recalled to the side in place of Will Hughes.

“We gave Will a rest and brought Jeff in for energy,” said McClaren. “What an asset we have got – Jeff’s a good player.

“Then 25 or 30 minutes later he is out again. He has been very unlucky.”

Hughes is expected to come in for Hendrick against Yeovil.
