SERVICES for disabled children could be reduced or cut altogether as Derbyshire County Council makes plans to save £157 million over the next four years.

Cuts in Government funding and greater demand on the budget has led to the council reviewing some services currently offered to disabled children without assessmen,t with the view to cutting many altogether – which would save up to £485,000 a year.

Members of the council's cabinet will meet on Tuesday to agree to consult on the proposals, which include ending one-off funding for summer play schemes for disabled children, reducing funding for group activities for young people with a disability and ending one-to-one flexible support and short-break grants to children and young people.

If agreed by the cabinet, the consultation would take place during autumn this year.
