MORE than 180 vehicle numberplates have been secured in events run by Derbyshire Police in a bid to deter theft.

Neighbourhood policing teams have been fitting anti-theft screws to numberplates during events across the county following an increase in thefts.

And motorists have been taking advantage of the free service to deter would-be crooks.

The North West Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, which covers Hilton, Hatton and Etwall, have now completed three events and secured 139 vehicle plates.

Another event in Melbourne also fitted a further 42 cars with the tamper-proof screws.

The teams will be out in South Derbyshire for two more days.

They will be at Morrisons in Swadlincote on Monday, July 28, between 3.30pm and 6.30pm, and at Scropton Village Hall on Wednesday, August 13, from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.

Simply turn up with your car to get tamper-proof screws fitted free of charge.
