A DANGEROUS driver who careered into two cars after refusing to stop for police has been jailed.
Syed Ditta, 35, of Ash Street, Burton, jumped a red light at the junction of Dallow Street and Horninglow Road, with a police officer just feet away from his car.
As the officer approached, Ditta revved up his Mitsubishi and sped away, smashing into a car driven by David Gallagher, whose daughter was sitting in the passenger seat.
In his desperate bid to make a getaway, he then collided with another vehicle before making off.
The court was told that although the officer involved in the incident was in an unmarked police car, he was wearing a full police harness and had an ID card on a lanyard.
He got out of his car and from only three feet away, told Ditta he was a police officer and ordered him to stop.
The incident happened on March 9 and Ditta — who was already serving a suspended sentence for a drugs-related offence — was eventually arrested a few days later while driving the same vehicle.
Ditta admitted charges of dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and breaching an eight-month suspended prison sentence for offering to supply cannabis.
He was jailed for 11 months at Stafford Crown Court and was also banned from driving for three years.
Raj Punia, defending, told the court Ditta had worked in the motor trade for several years and had lost his job and his trade as a result of this incident.
Mr Punia said: “It is not a case of him driving at speed through the traffic.
“It was a bad piece of driving over a short period of time.”
