AS part of his duty as mayor of East Staffordshire, Ron Clarke will be attending several events next week.

Both the mayor and his wife, Margaret, the mayoress, will be attending the Candlelit Vigil at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, at 10pm on Monday, August 4.

On Wednesday, August 6 the mayor and mayoress have several engagements; the green flag raising at Bramshall Road recreation park in Uttoxeter at 9.45am, then on to Playday at Shobnall Fields, Burton at noon, and the Insignia Visit by the Girl Guides at Burton town hall at 3.30pm.

Finally Mr Clarke and his wife will be making an appearance at 6pm at Beer and Music Festival at the Navigation Inn in Horninglow Road, Burton.

Mr Clarke was sworn in as mayor in May this year replacing outgoing mayor Michael Rodgers.

The 74-year-old previously represented the Eton ward as a Labour councillor on East Staffordshire Borough Council.

Keep up the good work Ron and Margaret and I believe Ron is still very much active as a borough and county councillor contrary to the last line!
