FAMILIES turned out in their dozens for a spot of Easter fun at Calke Abbey this weekend.

The National Trust property, near Ticknall, teamed up with Cadbury for an Easter egg hunt to have even the hardiest ‘eggsplorer’ scratching their heads as they scrutinised the map.

Intrepid hunters set off from base camp at several points throughout the day on Sunday before heading into the grounds of the historic house in search of their sweet booty.

They were rewarded at the end with chocolate treasure.

The disappointing Easter weather failed to halt the hunt, with families simply wrapping up warm to face the chill and tackle the showers as they searched behind trees, in knot holes and in all possible nooks and crannies to reach their goal of finding as many eggs as they could.

The house and garden were also open during the day and over the rest of the Easter weekend.
