AN estate agent saw sales rise 17 per cent in 2012 compared to the previous year, it has revealed.

Newton Fallowell (NF), which has a branch in Station Street, Burton, published its results while giving an optimistic forecast for the year ahead.

The company said prices for homes in the region, which stretches from Burton in the west to Boston in the east, remained competitive compared to the national average.

NF said properties pitched at the right price sold within four weeks, with buyers attracted to the area by good jobs, communications and education opportunities.

Founder and chief executive officer Mark Newton said: “We still benefit as a region from an influx of people, particularly from the south, looking for better standards of living and more competitively priced properties.

“There is still the divide between those who prefer old or new properties, but we have noticed a trend in buyers wanting open-plan kitchens, family rooms and homes that can offer fast broadband and good mobile connections.”

The NF boss said he was ‘confident that all the signs were good’ for the year ahead and warned that the Government would ‘muck up the market at its peril’.
