SCREEN star John Hurt returned to his native Derbyshire to talk about his life and work at a film festival.

Hurt, who grew up in South Derbyshire in the 1940s after his father became the vicar of a church in Woodville, was the guest of honour at Derby’s QUAD arts centre.

The actor is one of the patrons of the venue and agreed to return when it organised the first Derby Film Festival.

As well as hosting the guest appearance, QUAD is screening a season of his films, which Hurt helped to select.

In a recent interview with the Burton Mail, the actor said he was delighted to support the event and was happy to be ‘claimed’ by South Derbyshire as one of their own.

The Derby Film Festival continues until May 18 and features a host of special screenings, guest appearances and special events.
