PUPILS at a special school near Swadlincote bid farewell to a popular member of staff who has retired after 30 years.

A garden party was held at Pegasus School, in Cauldwell, the mark the occasion as Haidee Stevens said her final goodbyes.

Ms Stevens was a hugely popular figure at the school, in Main Street, which is attended by children between the ages of eight and 19.

She worked in a number of roles during her three-decade stay, beginning as a care worker before heading the care department.

She later moved on to the kitchen as head of catering.

Julie Bailey, from Pegasus, said: "She went into management and even worked in the kitchen.

"We arranged a garden party so the pupils could say goodbye. She will be greatly missed."
