A MUSICAL company wanting to improve on the talents of children in schools is holding a drop-in event at Burton Town Hall.
Midlands Music Service is launching a Marvellous Music making event for children of all ages, as well as adults, where they can drop in and try out a range of musical instruments for free.
Brendan O’Neill, director of music at the company, decided to hold the drop-in after claiming many children will attend their school’s music class but never learn to play an instrument properly.
He said: “At the event, they will get a chance to have a go on any instrument and there will be a volunteer there teaching them how to, for example, blow on a trumpet properly, or strum a guitar.
“We are aiming to get more people to play instruments, especially children, then they can hopefully have lessons from teachers within our service.
“Some of the staff will be there demonstrating and helping out, and also our big band BonJazz will be putting on a few performances.”
He added that there will be instruments available from every section including wind, brass, and string.
Entry is free and there will also be a big raffle too with 25 per cent of the profits going to the Poppy Appeal.
The Marvellous Music event will be held from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, July 6 at Burton Town Hall.
There is no need to book places.
There will be live performances at noon and 2pm, and a licensed bar open for adults between noon and 3pm.
The information can also be found at www.mms-music.co.uk and the Marvellous Musical Sunday Facebook page. Please note that the website is temporary and will be replaced very soon.
