PEOPLE who cannot make it to the seaside this summer can now enjoy a trip to the beach . . . in South Derbyshire.
Severn Trent Water is hosting a special fun day at Foremark Reservoir on Saturday which will feature activities including sand castle making, donkey rides and a Punch and Judy show.
This will mean many parents can cut out a 180 mile trip to the seaside and just head down the road to enjoy a 'summer holiday with a difference'.
Severn Trent Water's visitor centre manager, Wendy Mcclay, explains: "During the school summer holidays, we know how hard it is to keep kids entertained.
"So, to save parents a long drive and give kids a fun, free day out we've brought the seaside to Foremark.
"To make the family fun day one to remember, we've organised a host of free activities including donkey rides, a Punch and Judy show and we've created a giant sandpit."
The even runs from11am to 4pm.
"A trip to the seaside wouldn't be complete without heading out on the water," said Burton Sailing Club's David Bell.
"We've got free boat rides around the reservoir this Saturday, to give visitors a chance to experience life on the ocean waves.
"We're keen to let people find out what it's like to bob around on the water and enjoy the stunning views across the reservoir."
Miss Mcclay added: "If that's not enough to give visitors a taste of the seaside, there are also all sorts of yummy foods like ice creams and fish and chips to sample – so there's something for everyone."
