A NEW service aiming to combat isolation and help older and vulnerable people get out and about has been launched by a council.

The Trusted Befriending Network is being run on behalf of Derbyshire County Council by South Derbyshire CVS.

To support the Trusted Befriending Network people are being urged to volunteer to become a Befriending Champion, who help people who are at risk of becoming isolated and help them to get involved with activities.

The launch also saw the unveiling of the council’s new Friends and Good Neighbours Grant, which is aimed at groups, existing or new, wanting to set up initiatives to combat loneliness in their communities.

Groups which successfully apply can receive a grant of up to £3,000 to pay for a community event or set up a good neighbour initiative with a befriending aim.

Further information is available by visiting www.derbyshire.gov.uk/trustedbefriending or phoning Kerrie Fletcher on 01283 219761.
