FOLLOWING months of hard work, a beauty spa is now open.
GP Beauty Spa and Salon is the latest business to take over premises in Midland Road, Swadlincote, at the former base of Kensington Spa.
After it was reported that the former spa had closed due to an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease, the new owner was keen to let people know about the hard work that had gone into making the place suitable to reopen.
Spa owner Gayle Peake said she wasn't aware when she took on the building.
She said: "I nearly cried my eyes out. This is my dream; it was horrifying and just heartbreaking."
Determined to make it work, she set about replacing all water tanks and pipes and, thanks to specialist teams, now has two certificates to say the place is free of the disease.
She said: "It has just been one thing after another. It's taken two months but we're now completely bug-free.
"I want to thank everyone that has helped, encouraged and supported. Without them I think I'd have given up."
