A SONG currently the most watched video on YouTube has found its way into a Burton shopping centre.

On Friday, Burton and South Derbyshire College’s performing arts students surprised shoppers in Coopers Square shopping centre by performing a flash mob dance to the pop craze, Gangnam Style.

The dance performance caused a stir with a large crowd gathering to watch them in action. The flash mob was designed to raise awareness of the college’s forthcoming UNITE Festival, taking place from March 25 to 28, which will showcase the talents of students studying dance, theatre and music at the college.

Amanda Skevington, programme area manager for performing arts, said: “The Gangnam Style flash mob gave students a chance to use their dance skills to raise awareness of their forthcoming festival and was extremely well received by shoppers on the day.

“The UNITE Festival is a great opportunity for our students to perform and for the local community to get involved in a fantastic project. We will have many people involved from schools, community dance and theatre projects, ranging from the pre-school age to adults. We are looking to get out into the community with even more performances and projects in the coming months.”
