BOSSES at a Burton petrol station who applied for the chance to sell alcohol 24 hours a day have revealed how they will ensure the move does not lead to crime and antisocial behaviour in the area.
Chiefs at Shell UK Oil Products Limited have outlined to licensing chiefs at East Staffordshire Borough Council the measures they will put in place to help manage the sale of booze around the clock at its filling site in Belvedere Road.
The proposals could also see people allowed to buy hot drinks until 5am in the morning, every day of the week if they are passed at a licensing meeting at 10am on Thursday, July 3 at Burton Town Hall.
In a statement to the council, the firm said: “We will have in place a suitable and sufficient CCTV system with recording facilities will be in place at site and will operate at all times the premises is open.
“Staff will be trained with regard to their responsibilities in the retail sale of alcohol and regular refresher training will also be undertaken.
“A Challenge 25 policy will be operated at the premise with acceptable forms of ID being a passport and photocard driving licence.
“Spirits will also be located behind the counter.”
The application states: “Shell UK Oil Products Limited have applied for a licence for their garage on Belvedere Road for the sale of late-night refreshment and alcohol for consumption off the premises.
The requested hours are as follows:
l Provision of late-night refreshment from 11pm to 5am from Monday to Sunday for hot drinks only;
l Provision for the sale of alcohol for 24 hours a day from Monday to Sunday; and
l To increase opening hours to also change to be 24 hours.
So far, the proposal has received four official objections.
