A MAJOR regeneration project at a South Derbyshire park is set to begin on Monday.

Contractor Jack Moodys Limited will move on to Eureka Park in Swadlincote as part of a bid to revamp the area thanks to a £500,000 grant awarded to South Derbyshire District Council from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund through their Parks for People programme.

Work will take place on the bowling green area where the footpaths and furniture will be upgraded and the shrub beds will be replenished with new colourful plants.

The team will then be refurbishing the tennis courts with new metal fencing.

They will then move on to the area around the Memorial Gates on Midland Road, where the original gates of 1926 will be removed to be sympathetically restored by a specialist contractor and surfacing works will take place.

Bob Wheeler, leader of South Derbyshire District Council said “It is really exciting to see Eureka Park and its important historical features restored for local people’s enjoyment.”
