SOLDIERS who fought in the First World War are set to be remembered in a poignant ceremony commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of the conflict.

A short of Act of Remembrance service will take place at the war memorial near Saint Saviour's Church, in Main Street, Branston on Monday, August 4, at 11am – the morning of the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War (1914-1918).

Anyone who like to take part is welcome to attend.

Events to remember the conflict will be running around East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire throughout the centenary period, with many other commemorative activities taking place this summer.
