GRESLEY will play a friendly against Heather St John’s at Loughborough University tomorrow after their Evo-Stik NPL Division One South game with Eastwood Town was called off.
The Moatmen had been due to host the cash-strapped Nottinghamshire outfit – but Eastwood are unable to complete the fixture and could be set to resign from the league.
So, Gresley will take on Midland Alliance strugglers Heather, whose assistant boss, and goalkeeper, is former Gresley man Gary Hateley.
“I think everything is locked up at Eastwood,” said Gresley boss Martin Rowe. “I’ve heard the players are leaving as well.
“So we’ve arranged a friendly with Heather and it’ll be a great chance for us to experiment with one or two things.”
The Moatmen stuffed title-chasing Leek Town 4-1 last week before suffering an excruciating 4-1 defeat at Belper Town on Tuesday night.
Aside from conceding three daft goals in four first-half minutes, the Moatmen were pretty comfortable.
“We were bitterly disappointed on Tuesday,” said Rowe. “Having played so well on the Saturday we’d hoped to build on the performance.
“They didn’t really hurt us in general play, it was just silly individual errors.
“We had the majority of possession and kept control of it, which makes it even more disappointing.”
Jack Langston returns to the squad after a skiing holiday today and will take his place in the squad which will go out onto the 3G pitch, kick-off noon.
