A CRICKET club could be leased more than two acres of extra land if plans are agreed due to its increased membership.
As part of a commitment to acquire land for sporting activities as a replacement for other land lost through development, Staffordshire County Council has applied for permission to lease three sections of the land, off Dovecliffe Road, to Rolleston Cricket Club.
Planning authority, East Staffordshire Borough Council, is being asked for its opinion on the proposal before a decision is made.
The club will construct a nine wicket cricket square and outfield.
It has been looking for the opportunity to provide a second wicket and outfield to the club’s increase in numbers
In its design statement, the council said: “The proposal would offer the club the opportunity to develop a second ground adjacent to its existing pitch off Dovecliffe Road which would enable it both to sustain its current provision and expand capacity to provide sport and recreation for the benefit of local inhabitants in a more effective and efficient manner.”
