HAIRDRESSING students showed their skills are a cut above the rest when they secured first and third place in the finals of a national competition.
Burton and South Derbyshire College apprentice, Nicola Sharratt, and stylist at Temple Salon and Spa, Starr Jones, both 19, fended off stiff competition when they competed in the AHT Hair and Beauty finals.
The students had to create a cut, colour, blow-dry and finish to set specifications before a panel of industry experts passed their verdict on the winning designs.
Nicola, who came first in her category, said: “I was surprised to have won as there were a lot of people doing impressive work in the final.
“Taking part in competitions is a great experience.
“I love the atmosphere and the adrenaline rush.
“It’s a great achievement to have won.”
