POLICE have confirmed the name of a Hatton youngster who died after falling into a weir in Tutbury on Friday.

Staffordshire Police revealed that the boy was Kai Lambe, from Heathway, in Hatton.

Kai's family have released an initial statement: "Kai was a happy, outgoing and lovely little boy."

Officers were called out 6.15pm on Friday to the weir, near to Tutbury Mill on the River Dove, after receiving a report that a nine-year-old boy had slipped into the water and got into difficulty.

A spokesman from the force said: "He was rescued from the water by colleagues from the fire service and taken to Queen’s Hospital in Burton where he sadly died.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for HM Coroner.

"Specially trained officers are now supporting the boy’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

"We are continuing to work with colleagues from the other emergency services to understand the exact circumstances of what happened.

"We are asking that if any member of the public has further information on the incident, that they contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 597 of Friday 22 August."
