YEAR 10 pupils from an East Staffordshire secondary school have been given an insight into the working world during a careers day.

Representatives from local businesses and higher education organisers provided the youngsters from John Taylor High School, in Barton under Needwood, with information about the options available to them when they leave school at this time next year.

As well as learning about those options, the pupils were encouraged to take part in a mini assault course organised by recruitment staff from the armed forces.

Admissions staff from universities and colleges were also on hand to discuss a more academic route.

PCSO Steve Smith, who was at the event, said: "It's all about letting them see what choices are available when they eventually leave school."
