No leg break for Smith
Wakefield half-back Tim Smith has been cleared of a broken leg but must wait to discover the extent of the injury he sustained in the Jon Wilkin testimonial match at St Helens on Sunday.
The Australian went off just 15 minutes into the match, which the Wildcats lost 42-12, and was taken to hospital for x-rays amid fears of a break.
"There is no break but we are not yet sure of the extent of the injury," said a Wildcats spokesman.
Wakefield coach Richard Agar will be hoping for positive news for Smith, who was the club's player of the year in his first season with them in 2012 and was rewarded with a new two-year contract.
Agar is already resigned to being without Kyle Wood for the start of the new season after the half-back underwent surgery for a detached retina following a freak training-ground accident.
The Wildcats' first Super League game is against Bradford on February 3.
