PROTESTS to save a popular village pub have failed as its owners started ‘stripping the place out’, according to its former manager.
Victor Watkins, formerly of The Wheel Inn, in Findern, has admitted defeat and said he has been left homeless.
The pub is owned by Punch Taverns, which put it up for sale last July.
An application to change its use into a funeral parlour has been submitted to South Derbyshire District Council by agent DPDS Consultancy Group on behalf of the new owner.
Councillor Martyn Ford, who represents Findern on the district council, said he would be writing to Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities, about the situation.
Former owner Punch Taverns said that the pub was been sold with a licence and in an operational state.
They said the purchaser will now decide how they want to deal with the pub.
