AN appeal to trace a missing dog has ended in tragedy, its owner has confirmed.

Ziggy, a young spaniel who went missing during a family walk in Alrewas, has been found a few miles from where he went missing.

This morning Staffordshire Waterways called Ziggy’s owner to say they had found his body a few miles from where he went missing.

Ziggy’s vet has checked him over and it seems there is no sign of mistreatment, but loss due to a tragic accident.

His owner, Jo Hopkins, said: “I am devastated. Ziggy was a small dog but with a very big personality, life is not the same without him. Ziggy will be laid to rest in a favourite spot.

“I wish to say a huge thank you for all the help, support and good wishes I have received throughout this distressing time.”

Ziggy previously appeared in the Mail when he helped to raise funds for Burton’s Queen’s Hospital’s League of Friends annual sponsored dog walk.

Mrs Hopkins volunteered at the hospital radio for seven years following her kidney transplant, and previously said: “Ziggy is a very much loved and now missed family pet. He has helped me to stay fit and been a great comfort so it is dreadful without him.”
