AN agricultural supply store has been targeted by ram-raiders who drove a car through the shop front and stole more than £10,000 of electrical and mechanical items.

The goods, including chainsaws, were loaded into a second vehicle that was driven away at speed by the offenders.

The Land Rover Discovery was used to smash through the double-glazed frontage of Rea Valley Tractors, based at the Ashacres Industrial Park near Draycott in the Clay, at 11.29pm on Sunday.

Inspector Tyrone Kerr, of Staffordshire Police, said: “Once inside they stole power machinery, including chainsaws.

“Once they had got hold of everything they wanted, the offenders made off in a second, hatchback-type vehicle, possibly a Subaru. The Land Rover was abandoned at the scene.

“The Land Rover was effectively used as a battering weapon and a second vehicle was used to make off.”

He continued: “This is quite an unusual modus operandi. We are very keen to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in that area at around the time of the offence.”

Insp Kerr said the value of the items stolen by the offenders was £10,645.

The goods taken included 12 chainsaws, four combination attachments, a strimmer and five hedge cutters.

All the stolen goods were manufactured by Stihl and were orange in colour, packaged inside white-coloured cases.

As well as appealing for witnesses to the raid, officers are also keen to speak to anyone attempting to peddle items similar to those stolen in the ram-raid.

Insp Kerr said: “Our assumption is that the thieves will now attempt to sell these items, so we would be keen to hear from anyone who is offered these items for sale. Our enquiries are ongoing are we are hopeful of apprehending these offenders.”

Witnesses and people with information are urged to call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 778 of March 31, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
