STORIES about gardener and architect Joseph Paxton will entertain green-fingered fans at an upcoming event.

Sharpe's Pottery Museum in Swadlincote will host Danny Wells, a well-known local historian, for an evening of storytelling on September 9.

Mr Paxton's talent, together with a determined work ethic, made him a notable 19th-century gardener, architect and Member of Parliament whose influence can be seen locally at Chatsworth to this day.

Visitors will find out about his life and contribution to both 19th-century society and to Derbyshire's local history at the event, hosted by the South Derbyshire Group of Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.

The illustrated talk takes place from 7pm, with admission costing £3. A raffle and light refreshments will be available.

More information is available from Derbyshire Wildlife Trust on 01773 881188.
