A MEMBER of a leading charity for girls and young women has spoken to top Government officials about the help she and others receive as they planned for their future.

Julia Peters, who is an assistant leader with the 3rd Ashby Brownies, met representatives from the Government Equalities Office and even had her input passed onto Prime Minister David Cameron.

She was asked to give her feedback on key future projects, including discussing how career advice was given during her years in full-time education.

Along with 16 others from across the UK, the 19-year-old had the chance to find out about careers in politics and what it takes to run a government campaign, as well as offering her opinion on what can be done to help young women in North West Leicestershire achieve in the future.

Julia, who is studying primary education at Nottingham Trent University, joined the Girlguiding Advocate panel because she wanted to learn more about the issues affecting young women.

She said: “Being part of the panel means that I have somewhere, where you feel as if you can say what you believe in and make a difference to the future of young women’s lives.

“We all felt as if we made a difference and it was great meeting people from the civil service and government.”

During the meeting in London, she also gave her opinion about the Girls’ Attitudes Survey, Girlguiding’s annual research programme which seeks the views of women across the UK.

Ms Peters also spoke to representatives from charity Beat, which included a presentation from a young ambassador and information about how to get involved in a campaign to help battle eating disorders in North West Leicestershire.
