A TRIO of intrepid kayakers are paddling their way along the rivers of the UK in a bid to raise funds for cancer charities.
Brothers Lee and Christian Sharratt and Christian’s partner Lisa Rafferty set off this week on an epic 150-mile journey from Burton to Hull.
They were waved off from the Ferry Bridge in Burton on Thursday morning, and thought the journey would take them around five days.
All three of the group are keen kayakers, and have taken part in the sport for many years.
Though this is the furthest any of them will have paddled, Lee Sharratt said they felt prepared for the journey.
They came up with the idea after the two brothers had a male cancer scare last year.
Lee found a lump, and as a result urged his brother to check himself. He too found a lump.
Luckily the pair, from Stapenhill, were told there was nothing wrong, but the shared experience made them keen to raise awareness about the issue and try to boost funds to support people going through the same thing.
So far, they have collected around £1,200 in pledged donations.
