THE Mail will be providing live coverage of the Staffordshire and Derbyshire county council election results.

The ballot papers are being counted this morning and the results are expected this afternoon.

Keep visiting the Mail's website throughout the day for live coverage from the counts taking place at Burton Town Hall and Swadlincote Civic Offices. Full reaction will also be available in tomorrow's Mail.

11.05am

PAUL Liversuch, who has stood for the Socialist Labour Party in Swadlincote North, has said he has 'not done too well'.

However, the left-winger is not totally downhearted.

"We've had the privilege of offering an alternative so we've achieved something, I think, quite good.

"Others have offered the same old politics that will not sort the economic problems of this country. Our policies would sort them.

"At least we've had an opportunity to represent our policies, and that's what politics is about."

Meanwhile, a re-count is under way in the Aston division, which is being contested by the Tories, Labour, Ukip and the Liberal Democrats.

The move was announced moments ago by Frank McArdle, deputy returning officer.

Gill Farrington, who is standing for the Tories in Swadlincote Central, believes she has lost.

"I think Labour will come first but, then again, it was always going to be a very hard job."

Councillor Farrington has been hampered by health problems and will not attempt to regain a seat on the county council next time around.

Unconfirmed reports suggests Labour has won in Swadlincote South and may have captured Linton.
