THE woman who aims to represent South Derbyshire after the next election has hit out at the news that 360 jobs will go from a Swadlincote firm.
Cheryl Pidgeon (pictured), Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for the district, said the loss the jobs from Sandvik would have a catastrophic effect on the town.
She said: “If this proposal is seen through, it would be disastrous for communities in South Derbyshire.
“These drastic proposals which, if seen through, will be a massive hit for hardworking families.
“I’m calling on the Sandvik’s management to meet with me and workforce representatives to see if an alternative decision can be found.”
A spokesman from Sandvik announced earlier today that the firm is due to meet with union representatives on Monday.
