DERBY County’s number one goalkeeper Lee Grant will miss the early pre-season friendlies after undergoing a minor operation on his knee.
First-team coach Paul Simpson said Grant has been nursed through his rehabilitation and is about a week away from a return.
“Lee had a small tidy-up operation, nothing serious,” added Simpson.
“Pre-season is a good opportunity to have a look at Kelle Roos because Lee Grant will not be fit for the early games. We will have a look at Kelle, and Jonathan Mitchell.”
Roos signed for Derby from Nuneaton Town in January and is likely to be second-choice behind Grant this season following the summer departure of Adam Legzdins.
Mitchell, 19, joined the Rams on a free earlier this month having been released by Newcastle United.
Grant was ever-present last season following his free transfer from Burnley.
Derby’s early pre-season games see them play Matlock Town, Ilkeston, Nuneaton Town and Mickleover Sports.
