COUPLES tying the knot in Burton can bring extra sparkle to their big day with a new service offered at the town’s register office.
The Staffordshire County Council office, in High Street, has launched candlelit ceremonies for those holding their wedding or civil partnership at the venue.
The centre is one of only a few venues offering the atmospheric experience, created by means of flickering LED ‘candles’.
First to take up the offer were Lisa Hallifield and Nick Brown, from Ashby, who tied the knot at the register office yesterday.
Lisa said: “When we first visited the office we saw the candlelight option and thought it looked great – that’s why we went for it.
“We hadn’t even known about it until a member of staff told us it was available.
“It’s a very special day and the candlelit ceremony makes it even more special.”
Pat Corfield, the county council’s cabinet member for culture and communities, said: “Winter ceremonies, particularly in the afternoons, can often lack natural light, so we thought: ‘Why not offer candlelit ceremonies? What could be more romantic?
“Candlelight offers a warm and intimate ambiance and I am sure that our visiting brides and grooms and their guests will really enjoy the experience.
“Our couples get to share their vows in an atmosphere that is relaxed and filled with emotion.
“Candlelight marriage ceremonies are timeless and elegant and there’s no reason why register offices can’t be transformed into this perfect romantic setting for our newlyweds’ special day.
“Couples will be offered the option of a candlelit ceremony during the winter months at no extra cost.
“There is no danger of the bride’s dress catching fire due to the LED candles, which are cleverly hidden behind cream candelabras and look amazing.”
More information about ceremonies is available by visiting the register office at 57-60, High Street, or calling Staffordshire Registration customer services on 0300 1118001.
