BURTON Albion are likely to give senior players more game-time against Hednesford Town tonight, writes DAVID BROOME.
The Brewers travel to Keys Park, kick-off 7.45pm, for their third friendly of pre-season. They have another game 24 hours later at Mickleover Sports, and with two games in 24 hours and more training scheduled for Thursday, tonight's team is likely to feature the more experienced players in the squad.
"I wouldn't read too much into the two teams," said Rowett. "They won't be picked on merit but the one at Hednesford will look more experienced."
Rowett has been pleased with the summer preparations thus far, which have seen Albion beaten 1-0 at Ilkeston Town but then win the Bass Charity Vase with a 4-0 victory against Sheffield United on Saturday.
The Brewers looked determined against the Blades and Rowett was pleased to see that focus, even in a friendly match.
He said: "In my opinion you can't turn up for pre-season games and think 'it's just a bit of fitness, let's go out there and enjoy it'.
"That's the first game of the season, so your preparation has got to be spot on, your attitude has got to be spot on.
"Your fitness is never going to be as high as you'd like, but you can try to do the right things."
Though certain individuals stood out on Saturday, the team cohesion was evident.
"We wanted to start that little bit of team play and that little bit of unselfishness about our defensive work-rate," said Rowett.
