A POPULAR transport festival has raised £1,000 for two local organisations.

The Swadlincote Transport Festival held in May was organised by the Box Motor Club in conjunction with the Swadlincote Rotary Club.

Yesterday, Pat Murray, past president of the Swadlincote Rotary Club, helped hand over cheques worth £500 each to Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and 1211 Swadlincote Squadron ATC.

He said: "When I was president of the rotary the ATC was my chosen charity so I chose them to receive the proceeds from the festival.

"The Box Club nominated the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance as its charity. During the festival we had bucket collections and donations and raised £1,000.

"It was a great occasion, with fantastic weather, and we raised enough money to donate £500 each to our chosen charities."
