BURTON'S MP has weighed in to help residents in Branston with an issue which has been 'stinging' them for some time.
People living in a large part of the area claim they have been plagued by bees coming from a nearby beekeeper who has tens of thousands of the insects at his home, where he makes and sells honey.
Householders complain of the misery of swarms, residue left by the bees on cars and anything left outside, and the fears for children playing out, but the owner of the bees says there is no problem.
Andrew Griffiths has written to East Staffordshire Borough Council to encourage officers to take enforcement action against the owner, telling the authority he has too many bees for a domestic area.
"This is causing misery for the residents of Branston, and you can see how serious it could be.
"From my point of view, this is not an issue of someone being an amateur beekeeper in his back garden. These hives should not be in an urban area," he said.
