THE MP for South Derbyshire has honoured those who died in the Holocaust ahead of a national day of remembrance.
Heather Wheeler signed the Holocaust Education Trust’s book of commitment which honours those who died in the genocide.
Monday, January 27 will mark the 69th anniversary since the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Auschwitz was the largest of the German extermination camps where millions of Jew and ethnic minorities were gassed during the Second World War.
Mrs Wheeler said: “The memorial day marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau – and is an important opportunity to remember the victims and survivors of the Holocaust.
“I encourage all constituents to mark the day and to join members of our community in the fight against prejudice and intolerance.”
Schools, faith groups and community organisations across the country will arrange thousands of events to remembering victims of the Holocaust before and after Holocaust Memorial Day,
