A BURTON-based archer has won gold in the European Outdoor Youth Championships in Slovenia.
Jack Masefield won the Cadet Men’s Recurve Team Gold medal while representing Great Britain along with team-mates Bradley Denny and Joe Ground on May 23 in Ljubljana.
The 16-year-old, who is a member of the Central Regional Performance Academy, faced some of Europe’s finest young archers and showed excellent focus and composure to defeat Turkey in the gold medal match.
Songi Woo, performance coach of Archery GB, said: “Bradley, Joe and Jack really showed their individual shooting strengths during the tournament.
“They also worked fantastically together as a team and clearly enjoyed every moment of the gold medal match.
“They have proved themselves to be the best team compound archers in their age group in Europe and we hope that they can continue their success on the world stage too.”
There was success elsewhere in the Championships for Archery GB, with the squad taking home a Men’s Team Cadet Compound Bronze medal, a Ladies Team Cadet Compound Bronze medal and a Men’s Junior Team Compound Silver medal.
As a result, GB finished seventh overall in the medals table.
